How the Idiom Finder works
The idiom finder searches all 135 pages on Idiom Meanings while you type and shows up to 20 matches. Each match shows the page title and the first lines of its quick answer, and opens the full page when you choose it. Matches are listed in this order:
- A page whose main term is exactly what you typed
- Pages whose main term starts with what you typed
- Pages with your text anywhere in the title
- Pages whose quick answer mentions it in its opening lines
Capital letters make no difference. If nothing comes up, try a shorter word or another spelling. The search looks at the title, the main term and the first 150 characters of the quick answer of each page, so a word that only appears further down a page will not be found; the A–Z list is the place to browse instead.
The search runs in your browser: the list of pages is loaded once and what you type is not sent to us. It is free and needs no account.
